Listing Related Items Defined By Field Other Than Category

Best Answer SmetDenis , 21 August 2013 - 22:30

Basically I want to display a list of items in a module position. (The fact that I personally consider them related is incidental.)  I want to filter all entries using a field defined by me as a check box ELEMENT in the TYPE.

For this you may use standart Zoo module - "Zoo Items"

But it cann't to filter items by custom property (field).

I want to put a module listing items, of a different type - filtered by a specific checkbox field other than category, in the tabs of the product full layout.

These will be related items (of a different type) - but they are not related by category - I decide independently whether and how they are related and record this in a seperate checkbox list.

This allows me to create my own lists of related items which is necessary as there isn't always a logical relationship by category between items of a different type - it require judgement.

So for example I may have the following DIFFERENT TYPES:

Service - listing a range of 12 services

Blog - an ongoing collection of blogs

Case Study - a growing list of case studies

In a service description, product full layout, I want to have a list of 'Related Case Studies' in one Tab and a list of 'Related Blogs' in another.

The Case Studies are not necessarily related  to services by category. So I create a checkbox called 'group' and assign multi-select options of 1 to 12 (for each of the 12 available services.)

Then in the tab for 'Related Case Studies' in, for example, service 10 I want all of the case studies with checkbox option 10 ticked to be listed. The list will be a teaser type view with title and small paragraph of text.

Thanks.

Hi, renee

Our filter may work only by item type.
That is, you can not make a filter that will work on several types.
This restriction in the database of Zoo component.

For related items you can use a standart elements - "Related Items" and "Related categories", but all items must be in one App instance

Configure Related and Full layouts.

That you want to make a very complex relationship between items.
I'm not sure what all you want to do - you'll get.

Recommend you to simplify depending on your website.

Just to clarify the filter applies to a single type - but the results are displayed in the tab of another type.

So each description of an apple has a filtered list of pears in a tab. The list of pears will be different for each apple.

Is that possible?

A workaround at the moment has been to use the standard category list - then use the ZOO Item module. I can declare categories as I want them in another field for JBZOO App - but for the native ZOO App I can't. Some of my Blog APPS are still native ZOO as I need the styling.

Do you want to use the filter for search in related items?
It can not do that.

So basically can I show the results of a filter in a module posiiton - specifying that the filter uses a field of my choosing? (rather than just category)

OK, so this means products display in modules are limited to display by category / sub-category.

I think for an advanced catalog component it's important to be able to display filtered catalog results in a module or content position - so this is a feature request.
